I really don't see how it was impolite, seeing as how you made a political statement, and thus invited debate to your blog.CDJThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08660318862691448677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2908761834647229432.post-17144284974113385062012-05-31T22:05:59.401-07:002012-05-31T22:05:59.401-07:00Lu, you are too kind. From a Christian perspective this makes sense, but since I never believed that America was a Christian nation I don't think that gay marriage will be the culprit behind our down fall but rather Sin.

Creed, its paragraphs like your last one that make it hard to run a polite blog.Evan Gunnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14444936166465498497noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2908761834647229432.post-85092323933730688722012-05-31T12:03:46.920-07:002012-05-31T12:03:46.920-07:00@Lu
I'm sorry if my argument sounded hootenan...@Lu

I'm sorry if my argument sounded hootenanyish to you. I hope that I was able to make my point clear, though.

May I point out, if you don't mind, that "Gay marriage" isn't discussed at all in the Bible? Homosexuality is condemned in many places; this condemnation is an important part of Romans 1. But "Gay Marriage" didn't even exist as a concept back then.

All marital advice in the Bible is clearly crafted for a man and his wife. Marriage has been between a man and a woman by definition throughout the entire history of our culture.

Taking a sacred institution and redefining it to mean something obscene in the eyes of those who upheld it as pure? It seems like mockery to me. It may not have a huge economic impact, but (in my opinion, at least) it's a reckless toppling of one of the last remaining pillars of society.CDJThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08660318862691448677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2908761834647229432.post-9814544062052621492012-05-31T11:36:09.132-07:002012-05-31T11:36:09.132-07:00And Creed, you write as eloquently as always but i...And Creed, you write as eloquently as always but in this case I think it comes across as a bit of phenomenological hootenanyLuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16757308516716864514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2908761834647229432.post-81124248634792028942012-05-31T11:32:50.682-07:002012-05-31T11:32:50.682-07:00With all due respect (and I can say this because w...With all due respect (and I can say this because we have shared smoke, which for those of you who don't know is a sacred ritual), I think that considering the legalization of gay marriage as the impetus for our own country's "Fall," is a bit much. Only because gay marriage is discussed hardly at all in the Bible, and where it is discussed is often surrounded by other strange verses that we generally consider to be unimportant (such as not wearing wool with linen and the inadvisability of eating shrimp). Important issue or not, I hardly think that what two consenting adults to with their genitals can be considered the harbinger of doom for our nation.Luhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16757308516716864514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2908761834647229432.post-53938169691051551572012-05-30T20:55:18.002-07:002012-05-30T20:55:18.002-07:00You give three options, to cave (obviously bad), t...You give three options, to cave (obviously bad), to be like Westboro Baptist (obviously bad), and to "vote against it" while maintaining a charitable heart. I think that maintaining a charitable heart and voting against it are good, don't think I would say otherwise.

But there's a fourth option. Don't sit idly by, but don't act like Westboro Baptist either.
"Conservatism" isn't just putting a speed bump on "Liberalism"; the meanings of those words have been changed over the past century. Conservatism needs to consider taking a stand for tradition as a completely alternate ideology to Leftism, not a speed bump.

If everyone has made up their minds that it's a lost cause, then of course it will be. Their votes are just speed bumps at that point, unable to truly hold back the organized, well-oiled machine that we face. But if folks hold up modern American "conservatism" to be an actual cultural ideology, no longer as mere nostalgia but as a unified force grounded in reality then there's a chance. We must take the offensive while there's still time. But I think it's really up to each of us to make a difference. That's all I'm saying.CDJThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08660318862691448677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2908761834647229432.post-70095506066215090372012-05-30T19:43:56.583-07:002012-05-30T19:43:56.583-07:00Creed, it was over before it started.Creed, it was over before it started.Evan Gunnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14444936166465498497noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2908761834647229432.post-21837781833612861802012-05-30T18:16:10.252-07:002012-05-30T18:16:10.252-07:00It sounds like you believe the end of our civiliza...It sounds like you believe the end of our civilization and culture is inevitable.
